What was Float Small Business?

Float was a philanthropic initiative launched by Amina Moreau in the middle of 2020 to help small businesses survive COVID-19 lockdowns.

The website offered a database of restaurants, coffee shops, bookstores, hair salons, and other small businesses for the local public to support financially through the purchase of online gift cards.

The Deets

In the following two years, the Float community made thousands of generous contributions to small businesses throughout the Portland, Oregon community, inspiring other, similar initiatives across the country.

This support sparked the idea for a #ReopenResponsibly pledge, where shops around the world signed their names and publicly committed to reopening their businesses in a safe and inclusive way.

This also led to The Floatcast, a vid/podcast series where small business owners shared creative strategies for not just surviving difficult times, but daring to thrive.
